Nature of the Beast
If today was my last day of life upon this earth
I’d like to share my thoughts with you ‘bout what some things are worth
Seems the things we treasure most in the end will be the least
That ain’t the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the nature of the beast
That big four-bedroom home where you lay your head at night
One day will be the centerpiece of one humungous fight
The love you taught your children disappears when you’re deceased
That ain’t the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the nature of the beast
You’ve hustled your whole life to become a millionaire
But you can’t take it with you, and everybody wants a share
Now even those that you despise will wind up with a piece
That ain’t the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the nature of the beast
You’ve gathered everything you could for your security
You’ve never gave a second thought about humanity
You’ve never spoken one kind word to your neighbors down the street
That ain’t the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the nature of the beast
You’ve taken your eyes off of God and trusted in yourself
You have your Bible in your home, but it just lies there on the shelf
You say you’re just too busy, but the Lord knows your beliefs
That ain’t the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the nature of the beast
The storm clouds are gathering while the sun is shining bright
You’re rambling through the darkness, why can’t you see the Light?
You eat the devil’s breadcrumbs, and ignore the good Lord’s feast
That ain’t the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the nature of the beast
So come down from your high horse and look higher up above
And praise the Lord for loving you and learn to share His love
And thank Him for His only Son who died for you and me
To give us power to overcome the nature of the beast
